Visual Music: Technology and Visual Techniques in Composition
January 11, 2013
In addition to an evening of work by Cornelius Dufallo and Paola Prestini in VisionIntoArt commissioned work, Paola Prestini and Cornelius Dufallo lead a workshop at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts as a community component by violinist, Cornelius Dufallo, at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. This workshop teaches students how to integrate technology into the process of music composition. As part of the VIA mission, this one day workshop focuses on the visual aspects of composition: creating timelines, and recording melodies using Garage Band while using the inspiration of visual artist, Carmen Korda, to guide the work. Guest instructors provide hands on instruction with no prior work or experience needed to participate in the workshop. By the end of this workshop, students will have completed a mini score for a film, be able to use basic compositional techniques, and begin to use Garage Band to create their own future musical works.
